Winter Wonderful

Kelowna’s Busy Winter Sports Season Makes for Ideal Destination

Kelowna is arguably one of the most stunning places to visit in British Columbia any time of year. It is known for having a bounty of activities for both young and old, for families, or for lovers. But one thing it is truly renowned for is the snow that makes it the perfect winter wonderland destination for skiing vacations and winter sports enthusiasts.

Nearby, the Monashee Mountains are consistently covered in plenty of light, dry powder snow that make it the ideal challenge for skiers and snowboarders alike. You don’t need to be a pro to enjoy the slopes here though. It’s a place where even those who’ve never seen a pair of skis before can learn to love these winter sports. The serene wilderness and gorgeous surrounds under brilliantly sunny skies make this a dazzling place to be.

The three biggest ski resorts here – Big White, Apex, and Silver Star – are brimming with amenities as well. Pamper yourself when you come in from the cold, and don’t forget to enjoy the wine, the other big draw to the area.

Big White has long been the place in Canada with the longest high-speed six-pack lift. It’s family-friendly too, allowing the lift to access a green run from the top for those less experienced. And you can even go night skiing here too.

Silver Star has a Wild West theme with unique Victorian architecture and bright storefront facades. Behind the façade of olden days though, you’ll find modern slopes with high-speed lifts, and magic carpets for the beginners. About an hour and a half south of Kelowna, Apex is a bit smaller of a resort, but it’s still a major choice for intermediate skiers.

Because of the surrounding area of Kelowna, brimming with activities, it’s a prime winter vacation destination. The foodie culture here is strong, and with it comes plenty of vineyards that rival those down south in California’s Napa Valley. There are also cultural opportunities and other sources of recreation that can keep you endlessly occupied during your winter visit.

With the winter sports here though, you’ll find it’s a prime place for skiers and snowboarders lured by the amazing variety of slopes. Coupled with all the other amenities in town and at the big ski resorts, it’s no wonder Kelowna is becoming more and more popular every winter.

“The Cadder House is beautiful. I stayed here for a month during my clinical rotation. The Cadder House is indeed a home away from home. It is fairly central, so even without a car, downtown, parks and beaches are within walking distance. Thank you for making my stay comfortable and enjoyable! I will definitely be back!”

“I stayed at the Cadder House for a month during my clinical rotation at KGH. It really felt like a home away from home. Yolanda and Rick went out of their way to make sure my roommate and I had everything we needed to be comfortable. A beautiful place and amazing hosts. I will definitely be back!”
